Live basketball betting: how it works and what to watch

Live bets are placed during the game. The bookmaker recalculates the total and spread line after every significant event: a scoring run, a foul, a substitution, the end of a quarter.

How the total changes during play

The live total is built from the points already scored and the expected pace for the rest of the game. If the teams start very fast the line rises, if slowly it falls. So the "same" total live and before the game are not comparable.

Breaks are convenient points for analysis

The end of a quarter and the half are moments when the line stands still, so you can compare the score and totals without rushing a decision.

What gets in the way live

The line moves fast, odds can change while you press the button, and the live margin is usually higher than before the game. Decisions made on emotion ("they will catch up now") are the main cause of losses.
