Basketball betting for beginners: where to start
Betting is a risk, not a way to earn income. The best start is to understand how prices work and to judge results with numbers, not feelings. This guide is a map to the other LineVS materials.
Step 1. Odds and probability
Odds of 1.91 mean a probability of about 52.4%. The odds converter on the site helps turn odds into probabilities.
Step 2. Main markets
Moneyline, spread and total. The total is the combined points of both teams (under or over), the spread is the head start a team gets.
Step 3. Margin
The bookmaker takes a percentage from every market, and you have to beat it to come out ahead. You can calculate the margin with the calculator on the site.
Step 4. Bankroll
Decide the amount you can afford to lose and stake a small share of it. Large stakes (more than 3-5% of the bankroll) sharply raise the risk of losing everything.
Step 5. Records and ROI
Write down every bet: date, line, odds, result. After a hundred bets calculate ROI and compare it with the break-even rate.
Common beginner mistakes: chasing losses, betting without checking statistics, betting on every game and expecting guaranteed income. Only play with money you can afford to lose. 18+.
